our reproductive rights Birth Justice MATERNAL HEALTH Program centers on educating, supporting, & empowering women of color, queer & transfolx, low-income women, differently abled women, & immigrant women to safely navigate pregnancy, birth & the postpartum process.
Whilst this initiative is still gestating, we will continue to move this program forward & inspire folx from our beautifully diverse communities to join us directly as we here at the center never want to speak for anyone but with everyone & we want to offer the services our folx need & deserve.
We hope to offer
Full spectrum Doula services for people in marginalized communities
regular parent & child meetups with topical presentations (breastfeeding, child care, family planning, early childhood resources, etc.)
Childbirth Classes
Community Events
& whatever else YOU think we should include as well!
Pregnancy experiences & outcomes can be dramatically different for different people, especially for members of vulnerable communities. The disparities in maternal & infant outcomes are not the result of differences in genes or behaviors but are mostly explained by the differential historical, social, economic, & health environments experienced by Black & brown women. These economic & social differences matter for health; they are determinants of health, & as long as they exist, so will the disparities in maternal & infant health.
We acknowledge those inequalities & work to empower people in these communities to make autonomous healthy decisions for themselves & their babies to obtain safe, respectful, equitable medical care.
We believe Birth Justice exists when women & transfolx are empowered during pregnancy, labor, childbirth & postpartum to make autonomous healthy decisions for themselves & their babies & are able to obtain safe, respectful, equitable medical care.
