Join the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice's Teen Action Tank for a screening of "Out of Mind, Out of Sight", a documentary in which filmmaker John Kastner spends 18 months filming the daily lives of four patients in the Brockville Mental Health Centre in Ontario. Brockville Mental Health Centre is a forensic psychiatric hospital where people who have committed violent crimes are sent to receive treatment for their mental illness. Every single patient has some type of criminal charge against him or her, and every single one is capable of being extremely violent--even to the point of self-hurt.
The screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by the Teen Action Tank and special guest Public Defender, Cynthia Seda-Schreiber. Discussion will involve but not be limited to themes and findings of the documentary and the stigma of mental health in our society.
