Michael Tubbs
At the age of 26, Michael D. Tubbs became the youngest Mayor of any major city in American history. As Mayor, Michael was lauded for his leadership & innovation & under his stewardship, Stockton was named an “All-America City”, saw a 40% drop in homicides, led the state of California in the decline of officer involved shootings in 2019, & was featured in an HBO documentary film, Stockton on My Mind. He raised over twenty million dollars to create the Stockton Scholars, a universal scholarship & mentorship program for Stockton students & he is the Founder & Chair of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income. Michael has been named a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics & The MIT Media Lab, a member of Fortune’s Top 40 under 40 & Forbes 30 under 30, the “Most Valuable Mayor” by The Nation, the 2021 Civic Leadership Award winner from The King Center, & 2019 New Frontier Award Winner from the JFK Library & currently serves as the Special Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility & is the founder of End Poverty in California (EPIC). Tonite we will chop it up about his new impactful & inspirational memoir “The Deeper the Roots”, astonishing in its candor, voice, & clarity of vision in which Michael shares with us the city that raised him, his family of badass women, his life-changing encounters with Oprah Winfrey & Barack Obama, the challenges of governing in the 21st century & everything in between—en route to unveiling his compelling vision for America rooted in his experiences!
