Paul Kendrick
Social Justice Power Hour
Paul Kendrick is a leader, speaker, & writer whose articles have appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Washington Post, USA Today, among many others.
He & his father recently published their third book, “Nine Days: The Race to Save Martin Luther King’s Life & Win the 1960 Election”, the first full recounting of an event that changed the course of one of the closest elections in American history as well as the story of the first time King refused bail & came to terms with the dangerous course of his mission to change a nation. At once a story of electoral machinations, moral courage, & ultimately, the triumph of a future president’s better angels, "Nine Days" is a gripping tale with important lessons for our own time.
Paul & his father have written two other books on hopeful moments of interracial collaboration in our history: “Douglass & Lincoln: How a Revolutionary Black Leader & a Reluctant Liberator Struggled to End Slavery & Save the Union” & “Sarah’s Long Walk: The Free Blacks of Boston & How Their Struggle for Equality Changed America”.
Paul served in President Obama's White House Presidential Personnel Office, recruiting & developing talented, diverse teams of appointees for the Administration. He began his career at the Harlem Children's Zone, building their nationally recognized College Success Program.
During the 2012 campaign, he directed the youth vote in Wisconsin for both President Obama & Senator Tammy Baldwin’s campaigns. His program inspired hundreds of young people to volunteer, generating thousands of voter registrations, & heralded turnout among college students. Paul is currently the Executive Director of Rust Belt Rising, an organization training Midwest leaders on connecting with working families, winning elections, & delivering change to create thriving communities.
