Social Justice Power Hour
Gisele Barreto Fetterman
A former undocumented immigrant who became a citizen & uses her platform to help all manner of Pennsylvanians as well as folx around the country, Gisele is far more than a figurehead or a Lieutenant Governor's spouse, she is an access & equity advocate, a gosh-darned true-life hero, an unabashed hugger (difficult in this moment indeed!), & indeed the self-professed “SLOP” (Second Lady of PA).
She is the founder of Freestore 15104, where surplus & donated goods are received & redistributed to neighbors in need & aims to eradicate food & clothing insecurity, currently servin’ close to 1,600 clients a month. The Freestore has inspired 6 spin off locations & the birth of 412 Food Rescue, which is a community wide effort to end hunger & reduce food waste, workin’ with food retailers, wholesalers & other food providers to rescue un-sellable but perfectly good food to feed the food insecure. She is also co-founder of For Good PGH, a non-profit that works to advocate inclusion & inspire kindness.
Gisele was born in Brazil & emigrated as a child to the US, living as an undocumented immigrant for over a decade. Her work has been featured in the Huffington Post, TODAY Show, CNN, NPR, NY Post, & oh-so-much-more. Gisele is a Forty under 40 honoree, a Tedx Speaker, a mother of three…
& married to some guy named John.
