Our Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice is proud to present a benefit concert featuring beloved musician Jill Sobule in her only area appearance!
Jill is a recording artist with a huge fanbase & mainstream commercial & critical success with two hit singles, “Supermodel” & “I Kissed A Girl”, the first-ever openly queer-themed Billboard Top 20 record. Her music is all-at-once deeply personal & socially conscious, seriously funny & derisively tragic. She has performed with Neil Young, Susanna Hoffs, Dar Williams, Cyndi Lauper, Tom Morello, Lloyd Cole, Warren Zevon among many others as well as appeared on television & in movies. Her latest project, “F*ck 7th Grade”, was a finalist for the Lambda Literary awards in LGBTQIA Drama category & now she is comin' all the way from California to do a benefit show for our inspirational non-profit organization & the beautifully diverse communities we represent!
Come out for this very special concert & then if you donate $25 in addition, stay for a more intimate VIP after-party, to chat with Jill, snap some pix, & have some yummy snax…
All proceeds benefit our very much in need Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice, an educational enclave, community activist center, & safe-space for our LGBTQIA kids, our intersectional families, & all our beautifully diverse folks, connecting our disparate communities, both locally & nationally.
"Jill Sobule can claim her place among the stellar New York singer-songwriters of the last decade. Topical, funny & more than a little poignant... Grown-up music for an adolescent age."
~Jon Pareles, New York Times
