Social Justice Power Hour * Edgar Gomez

Social Justice Power Hour featurin' Edgar Gomez
Edgar (he/she/they) is a Florida-born writer with roots in Nicaragua & Puerto Rico. A graduate of University of California, Riverside’s MFA program, he is a recipient of the 2019 Marcia McQuern Award for nonfiction & his words have appeared in Poets & Writers, Narratively, Catapult, Lithub, The Rumpus, Electric Lit, Plus Magazine, & elsewhere online & in print.
We be choppin' it up tonite about his inspirational new memoir, "High-Risk Homosexual", which is blowin' up & as the NY Times sez, is a “breath of fresh air”!
Edgar’s wonderfully witty memoir about coming of age as a gay, Latinx man follows a touching & often hilarious spiralic path to embracing his gay, Latinx identity against a culture of machismo~ from his uncle’s cockfighting ring in Nicaragua to cities across the U.S. & the bath houses, night clubs, & drag queens who helped him redefine pride.
With vulnerability, humor, & quick-witted insights into racial, sexual, familial, & professional power dynamics, Edgar shares a hard-won path to taking pride in the parts of himself he was taught to keep hidden~ A scintillating, beautiful reminder of the importance of leaving space for joy.
