Anthony Oliveira ~ Social Justice Power Hour!
To get all y'all supa'-psyched for our conversation next week with the extraordinary Kelly Sue DeConnick & after Monday's fabulous show with Phil Jimenez, we've decided to rebroadcast this meaningful moment shared with our dear friend Anthony, an absolute queer comix pioneer who is a National Magazine & GLAADaward-winning author, film programmer, pop culture critic, & comic book aficionado.
A proudly queer writer of prose fiction, graphic novels, essays, & journalism, he is a recurring contributor to Marvel Comics wherein he wrote the delightful “My Drag Brunch With Loki”, the creator of "Apocrypha" about queer teens versus the Christian apocalypse & is a three-time winner of the National Magazine Awards.
Anthony has also worked with the Glad Day Bookshop~ the world’s oldest surviving LGBTQIA bookstore, & helped as it transitioned into a multi-function queer event space, including drag bar, restaurant/diner & queer community hub in the heart of the village.
To top it off I believe he is the only self-pronounced dumpster raccoon who also holds a PhD in literature.
As he sez of his mainstream comix work, “I think – understandably – stories of queer suffering, of surviving tooth and nail, are less en vogue now, both for publishers and for readers. But they’re still stories important to tell. Our scars still matter, even if not everyone understands them, or finds them harder to look at or to market.”
So tonite join us as we not only look at some of those scars but maybe even start to heal some together in community as Anthony & our own BRCSJ Chief Activist Robt Seda-Schreiber in virtual community-buildin' conversation equally empowerin' & entertainin'
