A poet, journalist, & educator who speaks with fierce rebellion, Khalisa’s extraordinary debut poetry collection, “Ghost in a Black Girls Throat” (Red Hen Press) is blowin’ up! Her poetry chapbook, “Real Girls Have Real Problems” (Jacar Press) as well as her love for poetry & performance & active membership in the National Poetry Slam (NPS) community has created much excitement for her work & we are thrilled to amplify her voice.
Khalisa also started the women & femme poetry organization, Poet.she & founded the Athenian Press~ a BIPOC bookstore and resource center for women, femme, non-binary, & trans writers & artists. Her work has been published widely & speaks to womanhood, anti-racism, identity, & generational trauma. Currently, serves as the founder of “Think in Ink: A BIPOC Collective” & the “Women of Color Speak Reading” series & is also the Assistant Editor at Glass Poetry as well as a workshop facilitator at Catapult.
